Understanding the importance of children feeling prepared and looking their best before school starts, Kay Jones of Kay’s Hair House offered a fun, celebratory event in August – a Back-to-School Braid-A-Thon.
“I’ve always wanted to host events for our community, mainly giving back to children and families,” said Ms. Jones. “It warms my heart just knowing that I’ve helped and made someone smile! Times are hard for a lot of people in our community. Knowing that, I just wanted to give back, something completely free to help!”
At the Braid-A-Thon, they serviced over 50 kids with braid styles and haircuts. More than 100 backpacks with supplies were distributed to students in grades K-12. “All the supplies and backpacks were donated from my clients, friends and family,” she said.
Kay’s Hair House is a new partner at Banneker Elementary in Kansas City Public Schools.
