On November 2, Cerner Charitable Foundation conducted a training for Center Middle School’s teachers to implement a social-emotional wellness curriculum called Second Step in their advisory classes. The Foundation also administered a social-emotional wellness screening for all of CMS students during the first part of December. This screening will show administrators and teachers what their students’ SEL strengths are and what social-emotional concerns to further address.
“One of Dr. Skretta’s goals this year is to increase trauma sensitivity in the school,” said Sydney Collins, Foundation Program Manager. “While the Second Step curriculum and SEL screening do not specifically address trauma, building a strong understanding and application of social-emotional wellness measures is crucial for both students and teachers to become trauma-sensitive. We hope to provide professional development more specifically related to trauma for Center Middle School in the future.”
